Week seven of the NFL season is upon us and it is time to present the weekly series dedicated to early picks for each NFL game in the coming week. These picks are straight up and not against the spread. Here you get who the home team and away teams are as well as the chosen winner with a little data to back up that opinion. It is just that simple, clear and concise.
You will also get a weekly Lock of the Week. Each week I will pick one game that I feel cannot lose. With that will be supporting data to back up that stance. Obviously each week anything can happen in the NFL but there is always a game that sets itself apart from the others. There are a few shockers this week. Can the Jets knock off Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and crew? Can Sam Bradford stop turning the ball over. There are always so many stories. Without any further trepidation enjoy the 2015-2016 NFL Week 7 Picks and Predictions, Lock of The Week.
Lock of the Week
Atlanta Falcons over Tennessee Titans
The Atlanta Falcons has played some close games and it was a matter of time before it was going to catch up to them. Well they are knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten but taking that pressure off might be a twisted blessing.
Matt Ryan has not looked great the last two weeks with two interceptions and a lost fumble two weeks ago against Washington. Then this last week he fumbled three times luckily he did not lose them all. Despite that he is still better than Zach Mettenberger or even Marcus Mariota if he played through the MCL.
More importantly is that Devonta Freeman is playing on another planet right now and no team has been able to stop him running or catching a ball out of the backfield. On the flip side, the Titans are giving up 129.6 yards per game, good for 28th in the NFL. That recipe does not spell Tennessee success. Meanwhile, the Titans have no real semblance of a running game to counter or take the pressure off their quarterback at this time.
This just feels like a long day for the Titans and their fan base. The Falcons should return to their winning ways.
2015 Lock of the Week Record: 6-0-0
|8:25||Seattle Seahawks||San Francisco 49ers||Seahawks|
|Not many would have predicted the Seahawks would be 2-4 and 0-3 at home. Meanwhile, the 49ers are about where many thought they would be. Kap looked like he found a deep ball last week but this is a different secondary. Wilson found Graham a lot and I expect a lot more of that this week. Seattle on the road.|
|1:00||Buffalo Bills||Jacksonville Jaguars||Buffalo Bills|
|Bortles keeps getting better but he cannot play defense. Shady is back for the Bills and Watkins should return. The Bills are 2-0 on the road and the Jags are 1-2 at home (even though this is London). The trend continues.|
|1:00||Minnesota Vikings||Detroit Lions||Lions|
|Detroit got off the bench last week. Stafford, Megatron and crew looked great like I expected all year. Vikings still can't score but neither can their opponents. Vikings give up 240 a game in the air and Stafford, at home in the dome, should be able to exploit the slot defender.|
|1:00||New Orleans Saints||Indianapolis Colts||Colts|
|If you take away one of the weirdest plays I have ever seen, the Colts played the Patriots well and Luck looked good. This game could be a shootout and if that happens I like Luck better than Brees at this point in their careers.|
|1:00||Pittsburgh Steelers||Kansas City Chiefs||Steelers|
|Ironically, Vick went down the Steelers came alive. Jones should start this week and he looked good especially with Bryant. The Chiefs just cannot score and the lack of Charles allows the defense to lock down the TE and WRs. Steelers on the road.|
|1:00||Houston Texans||Miami Dolphins||Dolphins|
|The Texans defense is surprisingly average this season but Hoyer has been surprisingly good. The Dolphins defense has been bad until awakened last week against the Titans. Do not expect that performance again but if Miller can run well and Tannehill gets the job done that can pull this off at home|
|1:00||New York Jets||New England Patriots||Patriots|
|The Jets are 4-1 but honestly who have the beaten so far? In their defense, the wins have not been close. The Patriots are on a mission, outperforming the 07 squad, to shut the world up after last year. I am not sure even the Jets secondary can stop Brady right now. The Jets come back down to earth a bit this week.|
|1:00||Cleveland Browns||St Louis Rams||Rams|
|The Browns last three losses are by a combined 13 points including a heartbreaker last week against Denver. Rams have scored 10 or less in three of last four. Gurley does look like the real deal and they are coming off the bye. My gut battles my head but take the Rams in a close one as Foles does just enough.|
|1:00||Atlanta Falcons||Tennessee Titans||Falcons|
|Mariota might not play and I was not a fan of the Titans even with him under center. Falcons lost their first of the year and Matt Ryan has been turnover prone the last two. Freeman is on fire and the Titans are 28th against the run. Falcons on the road.|
|4:05||Tampa Bay Buccaneers||Washington Redskins||Buccaneers|
|Will the real Redskins please stand up. It is hard to know what to get from them week in and week out. Meanwhile the Bucs are coming off the bye and Martin looked really good last time. The Redskins do not play the run well and that should help Winston. I like the Bucs on the road.|
|4:25||Oakland Raiders||San Diego Chargers||Chargers|
|Raiders are coming off the bye and the combo of Carr and Cooper looks great going forward but they have had a hard time defending the pass. Rivers just threw for 500+ in a loss so that combo is not great for Oakland. Chargers were close in GB and in Pitt. Chargers offense is to much at home even if Allen sits.|
|4:25||Dallas Cowboys||New York Giants||Giants|
|Cassell should get the nod after the bye to try and fix a sinking ship in Dallas. The Giants played a very ugly game in Philly where nothing looked right while sacks, penalties, and turnovers abounded. However, until proven otherwise, the Cowboys just can't win right now. the Giants straighten things out at home.|
|8:30||Philadelphia Eagles||Carolina Panthers||Panthers|
|Make no mistake about it, the Eagles did not look good on Monday night either. Turnovers and poor play calling/execution are not a sign of progression. The Panthers are still undefeated and the Superman knows how to get the win. I like a more regimented and controlling Panthers team at home with a defense that will give Bradford fits all night.|
|8:30||Baltimore Ravens||Arizona Cardinals||Cardinals|
|Cardinals looked uncharacteristically poor last week. But then again the Ravens secondary made Kap actually look good. Carson Palmer is light years better and the Cardinals have to many weapons to exploit the Ravens secondary. This has a sneaky chance to be a high scoring game.|
