Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • Record: 0-6

Keys to the Game:

Carolina: Cam Newton needs to continue his steady play. Newton hasn’t had a great year but he hasn’t had a bad year either. Newton is currently completing 63.5 percent of his passes which is the highest of his NFL career. His quarterback rating is also at a career high and he is showing improvement in all areas of his game. Newton will be facing a good defensive unit. The key for Carolina to leave with Tampa Bay with a “W,” is having Newton playing as a game manager. As a game manager he needs to limit his mistakes and let his play-makers like Steve Smith, and Greg Olsen do the work.

Tampa Bay: The Buccaneers have had a very rough season thus far, and now it looks like they may be without Doug Martin versus a very good defensive unit. They are going to have to rely on Mike Glennon’s strong arm to carry them. Glennon will be looking for Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams early and often. These two veteran wide receivers will be the key for the Buccaneers. They are going to have to make big plays to make up for the lose of Doug Martin. On defense, Tampa Bay needs to stop Cam Newton. It won’t be an easy task but they need to hands in his face, create pressure and make him feel uncomfortable all day.

What to Watch for:

Carolina: Carolina quietly has one of the best defenses in the game. They are able to stop the run and prevent teams from making big passing plays. However, rookie Mike Glennon has a big arm and he will be looking to make some big throws to his wide receivers. Carolina if they want to win their third game straight needs to find a way to stop those wide receivers. Even with Glennon throwing it won’t be easy because Vincent Jackson is still one of the better wide receivers in the game.

Tampa Bay: The Buccaneers really haven’t been a team anyone wants watch at all. However, this week I am looking forward to seeing how they try to replace Doug Martin. Martin was a key component of their offense and without him they seem one dimensional. It shall be interesting to see if the Buccaneers can run the ball on a stout Carolina defensive line without Martin. Either way eventually they will need to go to the air and the rookie Glennon might just shock the nation on Thursday night.

Prediction:

I really want Greg Schiano to get his first win of the season, but without Doug Martin it could be very tough. Tampa Bay needs to make sure they aren’t one dimensional, however, Carolina won’t make it easy. The Panthers have been on a roll the last two weeks and I don’t think the Buccaneers have a enough horsepower to tame the Panthers. Carolina Panthers 24 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17

The Bucs may as well throw in the towel this year. The entire coaching staff needs to be fired and the Bucs need to get some pass rushers.
