Vegas Odds (Spread and Over-Under): Patriots minus 3 1/2, 43 1/2 u
Mike’s Pick: A division rivalry game is always great fun to watch. Especially when those rivals are a NY/NE team like we have with this one. Over the years there have been some amazing games, scandals, and heated handshakes – just to name a few of the activities. However, one thing has remained the same, the Patriots, at least for the last decade or so, have always been the better team. That trend is no different this year, even without his best receivers, and without some of his best defensive players, Coach Belichick just keeps them rolling right along. Meanwhile, the Jets are relying on Geno Smith to improve their gameplay from last year and help them get back to some of their winning ways. The Jets do boast a great defense to help with that however, and the Patriots are looking more and more vulnerable defensively. However, I think, as of right now, the Patriots still have a little too much in the tank for the Jets Final Score: Patriots 24 Jets 17
Chris’ Pick: The New York Jets surprised many people when they upset the Atlanta Falcons in week five. However, they went back to looking like the same old Jets when they fell to the then 0-5 Steelers last week. In my opinion, the Jets play to the level of their competition. They rarely get blown out in losses or blow teams out in wins. The Patriots on the other hand have been ridden with injuries all season long and it keeps getting worse. On a bright note for the Patriots, Rob Gronkowski, who has been out all season should be returning this week. The return of Gronkowski couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Jets, with number one Cornerback, Antonio Cromartie sidelined due to injury. Although the Patriots have had a tough going this year they’re still a 5-1 team and will prove to be too much for the Jets to handle Final Score: Patriots 24 Jets 13
John’s Pick: Last week Tom Brady showed everybody that he can still will his team to win, while Geno Smith reminded everybody he’s still a rookie that is developing. When these two division rivals met in week two let’s just say it wasn’t pretty for both teams on offense. Still, the Patriots defense rattled (three interceptions) Geno Smith just enough to pull out the victory. Since then both teams have had up’s and downs while relying on their defenses to shoulder the load. However, the one difference is their records: where the Patriots sit on top of the AFC east at 5-1 while the Jets are in third place with a 3-3 record. The Patriots offense is starting to improve every week, although the defense keeps losing players to injuries. First Vince Wilfork went down and now Jerod Mayo looks to be out for the season as well, while AqibTalib’s status is still in the air. Even with the injuries mounting in New England this should be another defensive slug fest with Geno making enough mistakes to help the Patriots sweep the series Final Score: Patriots 20 Jets 7
Coach’s Picks: A big AFC East showdown in New Jersey this weekend and both teams are riding completely different waves. The Jets are coming into this game losing to a Pittsburgh Steelers team that didn’t win a game before that one. The Patriots are riding high after a last second win against the New Orleans Saints. This game is always a passionate battle between bitter rivals. Jets have a tough defense and will give Tom Brady different sets to try to confuse him and keep him off his timing. The Patriots look to be without Danny Amendola again this week due to a mean concussion suffered in the past game. We still don’t know if Gronk will play or if Ridley can keep up the big games. The Jets offense is just bad, injuries have crushed this receiving core and inconsistent running backs add more insult to it. The Jets won’t be able to score the points needed to stay in this game and might be embarrassed at home Final Score: Patriots 24 Jets 13
Josh’s Pick: Both of these teams are far better than anyone thought they would be. The Patriots have won despite several injuries to Ridley, Amendola, and Gronkowski. Similarly, the Jets have found ways to win under the leadership of a young quarterback and a stingy defense.
This is not how Tom Brady drew it up before the season, but standing at 5-1, I think he will take it. The Patriots have defied odds and established themselves as one of the top contenders in the AFC. I love the surfacing of young stars such as KenbrellThompkins and Aaron Dobson. Things will only get better for New England too as Gronkowski and Amendola are becoming healthy again. This team is scary and will be in contention when the season is through.
The New York Jets are not graceful with their wins, but they get the job done. Geno Smith has done an excellent job providing leadership to a team that lacked direction coming into the season.
I know the Jets are a scrappy team, but cannot see them pulling out a win against a strong Patriots squad. I am picking the Patriots to win Final Score: Patriots 28 Jets 18
