If you had to pick five players from NBA history to make up the ultimate team, who would you pick to be in the starting five? Who would be your point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center?
That was the task this week for the writers of Sports Unbiased – determine who the NBA’s All-Time Starting 5 would be.
Joining us this week was Kimani Gregoire, Sammie Wright, Rich Stowe, Derek McVay, Adam Solowiei, and JR Williams. Each writer used their own criteria to determine who they would choose. The only limitations was that they had to keep each player at their natural position. If they wanted to use Magic Johnson, they had to keep him at point guard (not center) for example – this made it tough because it forced them to not include certain players simply because of the position they played at. For example, to decide who should be the center, the writers had to pick between Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Shaquillle O’Neal, or any other center in history and not be able to simply pick Wilt put but Russell at power forward.
We’ll see who each writer picked at each position and why they chose that player. We’ll then come up with the consensus Sports Unbiased’s NBA All-Time Starting 5 based on who “won” each position. You’ll also be able to vote on each position for you think it should be.
Let’s start with the floor generals – the point guard.
