Mike Conley Jr. returned to the lineup during game 2 giving the Grizzlies just the offensive spark they needed to defeat the Warriors and snap their 20+ home winning streak. It was a momentous occasion for Stephen Curry as he became the first Warrior in over 50 years to hoist the NBA MVP award– Wilt Chamberlain won the award as a member of the Warriors in 1960.
The ceremony was short lived as the tip-off began and the Grizzlies went to work. The Warriors quickly found themselves down by more than 15 during the early third quarter, but clawed back to within 10 points by the end of the quarter. The Warriors continued to rally from behind during the fourth quarter, even closing the game to within single-digits, unfortunately, the defensive adjustments by the Grizzles’ limited the Warriors to a series low 90 points at home.
Can the Grizzlies take care of business at home or will the Warriors play spoiler? Who will win game 3?
FINAL SCORE: MEM 97 GSW 90
NBA Playoffs: Warriors vs. Grizzlies Game 3 Prediction
Jr. Williams (NBA Editor): The Grizzlies looked like a completely different team today and their defense was superb as they kept Stephen Curry under wraps in the wake of being named the 2014-2015 NBA MVP. I actually expected the Warriors to win this game, but Mike Conley Jr. provided quality minutes offensively and even helped defensively by limiting the scoring damage from Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Ladies and gentleman I think we have a series as the Grizzlies have done the near impossible after defeating the Warriors on their home court– their first loss since January 2015. The Grizzlies were the more aggressive team tonight and proved why they are one of the best defensive teams in the league.
The tides have certainly shifted as Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph put on their big boy pants and refused to return back to Memphis with a 0-2 deficit. Have the Grizzlies discovered the answer to stopping Stephen Curry? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Game 3 Prediction: I think the Grizzlies now have the momentum, and I expect them to protect home court in game 3. Grizzlies will take a series lead 2-1.
Steve Turner (NBA Contributor): The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Warriors at the Oracle in game 2! This is only the third time this season that the Warriors have lost on their home court all season. The Grizzlies really owe this win to Mike Conley and Tony Allen. Allen was amazing on the defensive end and refused to let the Warriors pull away in that game.
Mike Conley provided a huge spark for the Grizzlies and made some really clutch shots. The mask didn’t seem to stop Conley from taking control in this game. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson both had a bad shooting night. A majority of Golden State’s points normally come from those two guys. Golden State isn’t done with this series yet. As we approach game three though, I’m going with Memphis taking that game.
Game 3 Prediction: They’ll be on their home court and they’re coming off of a huge win. I believe they’re going to handle business in Memphis and win game three, final score 101-97
Keith Rivas (Editor): The Grizzlies came back right when they needed to. They caught Steph Curry off guard and now all they need to do is take care of their home court and boom — just like that the best in the West get sent packing.
I think this was a statement game because after a bad performance to open the series, many analysts thought the series was already over and in Golden State’s hand on a silver platter.
That’s simply not true.
Now the Warriors are going to have to earn their title back of the best team in basketball, but that shouldn’t be a problem for the MVP if he’s worth his weight in trash talk.
Game 3 Prediction: Grizzlies 101, Warriors 98
