The No.1 seed Golden State Warriors will face a New Orleans Pelicans team looking to deliver a first round knockout to the team many predict will reach the Western Conference finals. Which team will advance to the second round of the playoffs? Will the 2015 league MVP Stephen Curry continue his stellar play en route to the Pelicans’ elimination, or will Anthony Davis emerge as the best player of the series? Team S.U. sound off with their round 1 series prediction.
Warriors vs Pelicans Series Prediction
Keith Rivas (Editor): While it would be awfully tempting to root, root, root for Anthony Davis and the persistent New Orleans Pelicans, Steph Curry & Co. in Golden State are going to be way too much to handle.
Golden State beats opponents night in and night out because they are flat out better than their opposition — compare this with New Orleans’ style of play that has to do a lot with controlling the tempo in order to stay in it. The Warriors have made it obvious about how they feel about another team owning the moment — the answer is no.
That in mind, I do see the Pelicans having enough in the tank to scare Golden State, but not quite enough to pull the series win out.
Yep. This one is going all seven.
Prediction – Warriors 4 – Pelicans 3
Steve Turner (NBA Writer): The Golden State Warriors and the New Orleans Pelicans matchup will be an extremely entertaining series. With MVP candidate Stephen Curry leading his team to the number one seed in the Western Conference, I believe he is going to make a statement during the playoffs. This team has proved that they’re elite and that they mean business. The Pelicans won’t make it an easy run for them though.
With All-Star Anthony Davis leading the way, this team is ready to fight in the playoffs. Davis had an MVP caliber game against the San Antonio Spurs. This guy has proved time and time again this season that he can get wins for this team. I don’t believe Draymond Green is going to be able to stop Anthony Davis. If the Pelicans want any hope of beating this Warriors team, Anthony Davis is going to have to go off. Even if this happens, the Warriors will still come out on top.
Prediction: Warriors 4-1
Sauping R. Arguello (NBA Contributor): The Golden State Warriors will face The New Orleans Pelicans in the first round and something tells me they are relieved about that. I don’t think they wanted the headache that is Russell Westbrook and OKC. Though I don’t think the Thunder could’ve won the series, I felt that matchup could’ve been more dangerous to GS than N.O.
A healthy Anthony Davis will try to keep his overmatched team in this series but I just don’t see it being close. Davis will have monstrous numbers both offensively and defensively, but I don’t see where he’ll get more help. Can it be Tyreke Evans? Eric Gordon? Will Jrue Holiday and Ryan Andersen be ready to go?
MVP Stephen Curry will have his way with the N.O. guards and so will Klay Thompson. Andrew Bogut, Draymond Green, Marreese Speights, and David Lee will try to make things hard for Davis while the rest of GS deep lineup takes advantage of their mismatches.
Prediction: I’m taking the Warriors in 5 (4-1)
Jr. Williams (NBA Editor): Let me first say that this playoff series will not be a walk in the park for the Golden State Warriors. The Pelicans are a young yet experienced team with plenty of depth and scoring power required to compete among the likes of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andrew Bogut.
Offensively, Anthony Davis could provide significant issues to the Warriors’ ‘bigs’ due to his uncanny ability to score inside and out. His defensive presence and shot blocking ability should deter easy penetration, but I just can’t see the Pelicans as a whole stopping the superior perimeter shooting by the Warriors.
Overall this will be an entertaining series as we watch Anthony Davis experience his first taste of the postseason, unfortunately, the Warriors are better-equipped in just about every position on the floor. I think the Pelicans will give one hell of a fight, unfortunately, their arms are too short to box with god.
Prediction: Warriors (4-2)
