You might not be a handicapper or follow horse racing at all but odds are you have heard of Secretariat. Regarded as one of, if not the best, horses of all-time, this horse is the stick that all others are measured against.

In 1973 the three year old season began and developed into a two horse battle leading up to the Belmont Stakes. The battle was between Secretariat and Sham with the former constantly coming out on top throughout the Triple Crown series. Unfortunately for Sham as he was an exceptional horse but ran into a buzz saw that could not be stopped. What unfolded at the Belmont Stakes is the stuff of legend. Secretariat set track records at the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes leading up to the Belmont. His encore was a World Record time and 31 length victory en route to the Triple Crown title.

  1. Big Red was indomitable, I kinda felt sorry for Sham, he threw his head up at the five-eighths pole either tired or maybe bled he stopped so quickly.
