The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim’s outfielder, Josh Hamilton, made his much anticipated spring debut today at the Angels’ Tempe Diablo Stadium as the Angels took on the San Francisco Giants.
Hamilton has been out since February 25th with a left calf strain he suffered during some baserunning drills. He served as the Angels’ designated hitter and went 1-3 on the day. Hamilton hit third in the lineup grounding out in his first at-bat, hitting a line drive off the glove of Giants’ first baseman Mark Minicozzi and lining out to right in his final at-bat of the day.
Giants’ starter Tim Lincecum gave up five runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out none, putting his spring ERA at 4.30 through 14 2/3 innings. The Giants took the lead with two outs in the top of the ninth but Shawn O’Malley singles with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Kole Calhoun then came up and launched a two-run shot over the right field wall to win the game for the Angels on a walkoff. The final score was 8-7.
