Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice to lead Paris Saint-Germain to a 4-0 dismantling of Bayer Leverkusen on the road to virtually assure themselves of a place in the Champions League quarterfinals.
The visitors wasted very little time, with a goal in the third minute by Blaise Matuidi. They continued to dominate throughout the first half, with Ibrahimovic scoring his brace to give his club a three-nil halftime lead.
Leverkusen started the second half with the look of a club that had accepted their fate. They were reduced to ten men after defender Emir Spahic received his second yellow card in the 59th minute. Former Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye completed the scoring for PSG in the 88th minute – his first goal for the club.
The second leg will be held on March 12 at Parc des Princes in Paris.
