Playing in front of his home crowd, Lleyton Hewitt was able to overcome top seed Roger Federer 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, to claim the Brisbane International title.
Federer had been 18-8 against Hewitt for his career going into the final. However he came out sloppy and his opponent took full advantage to take the first set. Federer eventually got his game going in the second set and looked prime to win the match, but was unable to take any of the seven break chances he had in the final set.
It was Hewitt’s first ATP title since winning at Halle in 2010 when he also defeated Federer in the final.
