On Monday, the UEFA held its Champions League the round of 16 draw. The first stage of the knockout phase of Europe’s top club tournament begins in February 2014.
Here are the results:
UEFA Champions League Rd of 16 Draw
|AC Milan||vs||Atletico Madrid|
|Bayer Leverkusen||vs||Paris St. Germain|
|Zenit St. Petersburg||vs||Borussia Dortmund|
English clubs Arsenal and Manchester City were handed very difficult draws as they get to face champions Bayern Munich and Barcelona respectively in what should be the marquee matchups of the round.
Ex-Chelsea striker Didier Drogba will return to Stamford Bridge with new club Galatasaray of Turkey, while Manchester United looks to have had the easiest draw of all the English clubs as they will face Greek side Olympiakos.
Real Madrid’s bid to win a record 10th European crown will see them taking on German club Schalke. Atletico Madrid will have a trickier tie against Serie A giants AC Milan (the lone Italian club left in the tournament).
Rounding off the draw, are last season’s Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund facing Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg, and Ligue 1 champions Paris St. Germain against Bayer Leverkusen of Germany.
