The official 2013 PGA Tour season is complete and it was quite the year. We saw incredible rookie performances, First time Major Championship winners, old timers returning to form and Tiger Woods returning to Player of the Year form. It is never too early to look forward into the 2014 season so with that in mind let’s look at the upcoming Major Championships on the 2014 PGA Tour Schedule.
Event: The Masters
The Dates: April 10th- 13th
The Venue: Augusta National Golf Club
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Par and Yardage: Par 72 playing to 7,435 yards
Defending Champion: Adam Scott
Quick Fact: The Masters is the only Major Championship played at the same venue each year. The 2014 edition of the Masters will be the 78th edition of the event. There are 19 different ways for a player to qualify for the Masters. The Masters Committee can also invite international players that do not meet one of the 19 criteria.
Event: The US Open
The Dates: June 12th- 15th
The Venue: Pinehurst Resort (Number 2)
Location: The Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina
Par and Yardage: Par 70 playing to 7,495 yards
Defending Champion: Justin Rose
Quick Fact: 2014 will be the first year that any venue hosts the Men’s and Women’s US Opens in the same season. After the 2014 season, Pinehurst will be the only venue to host all five USGA Championship events.
Event: The Open Championship (British Open)
The Dates: July 17th- 20th
The Venue: Royal Liverpool
Location: Hoylake, England
Par and Yardage: Par 72 playing to 7,258 yards
Defending Champion: Phil Mickelson
Quick Fact: The 2014 Open Championship will be the 12th edition of the event to be held at Royal Liverpool. In 1930 Bobby Jones won the second leg of the Grand Slam when he captured The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
Event: The PGA Championship
The Dates: August 7th- 10th
The Venue: Valhalla Golf Club
Location: Louisville Kentucky
Par and Yardage: Par 72 playing to 7,297 yards.
Defending Champion: Jason Dufner
Quick Fact: All 18 greens at Valhalla have been changed or modified entering the 2014 PGA Championship. It has been 14 years since the PGA Championship was last played at Valhalla golf Club.
The 2014 PGA Tour Major Championship season should only build on the four incredible events of 2013. But will we get a repeat winner? Will another break through for their first Major Championship? Only time will tell but one things is for sure. We are destined for another season of quality golf filled with agony and elation.
