The 2013 PGA Tour schedule is in full swing and we are currently in the middle of Masters week. We all know Augusta National is the site for the Masters (the only major championship without a revolving venue) but where are the other three Major Championships being played in 2013. Does anyone remember who the defending champions are at these events? Let’s take a quick look at the Major Championship landscape for 2013.
Event: The Masters
The Dates: April 11-14
The Venue: Augusta National
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Par and Yardage: Par 72 playing to 7,435 yards
Defending Champion: Bubba Watson
Augusta National is the only PGA Tour major that plays every year at the same course.
This year’s event is the 77th edition of the Masters.
The Dates: June 13-16
The Venue: Merion Golf Club
Locations: Ardmore, Pennsylvania
Par and Yardage: Par 70 playing to 6,996 yards
Defending Champion: Webb Simpson
Merion Golf Club is the first US Open course since 2004 to play to a distance that will measure less than 7,000 yards.
After a 30 year hiatus, this will be the fifth time that Merion has hosted the US Open (1934, 1950, 1971, 1981 and 2013).
The Dates: July 18-21
Location:Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland
Par and Yardage:Par 71 playing to 7,034 yards
Defending Champion: Ernie Els
In 1987 Nick Faldo managed to scrape 18 straight pars in the final round to win the British Open.
The will be the 16th time that Muirfield has hosted the British Open (1892, 1896, 1901, 1906, 1912, 1929, 1935, 1948, 1959, 1966, 1972, 1980, 1987, 1992, 2002 and 2013)
The Dates: August 8-11
The Venue: Oak Hill Country Club (East Course)
Location: Rochester, New York
Par and Yardage: Par 70 playing to 7,134 yards
Defending Champion: Rory McIlroy
The inaugural event at Oak Hill was won by Jack Nicklaus in 1980 with a 6 under 274.
This will be the third time that Oak Hill Country Club has hosted the PGA Championship (1980, 2003, and 2013)
