The New England Patriots have released their star tight-end Aaron Hernandez. This move by the Patriots came less than two hours after Hernandez was taken away from his home in handcuffs Wednesday morning by the Attleborough Police Department. With a fluid situation involving homicide and Hernandez, the Patriots are now faced with several crises. There’s a lot going on in the off-season for the Patriots organization. Patriot’s tight-end Rob Gronkowski has had several surgeries and healing issues with his broken left forearm. There is also the issue of Grownkowski’s back surgery which will put him off the field for a significant part...

New York Giants All-Pro punter Dave Jennings died Wednesday morning. He was 61. For the last two decades ,Jennings fought Parkinson’s disease. Jennings was also known as an extraordinary broadcaster. Jennings spent 11 seasons (1974-1984) punting for the New York Giants. He was elected to the Pro Bowl four times. Three of the four selections were consecutive from 1978-1980. Jennings played for a short time with the New York Jets from (1985-1987). Jennings maintains the New York Giants franchise records for punts (931) and yards (38,792). Former New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow, who was released this spring, has signed with the New England Patriots. Tebow will be joining the Patriots for a mandatory minicamp as quarterback.  This move may come as a surprise for some but others speculated that if a team were to sign Tebow, it would likely be the Patriots. Tebow will rejoin Patriots Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels who was the Denver Broncos head coach. McDaniels was the reason Denver traded into the first round to draft Tebow in 2010. McDaniels received a lot of flak from the fans and critics of the media for drafting Tebow, but was redeemed in the 2011 AFC...

This past weekend football fans mourn the loss of Jack Butler, who died Saturday at the age of 85.  Butler, a NFL Hall of Fame cornerback, who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, revolutionized the way cornerbacks played in the NFL. Butler played wide receiver at Saint Bonaventure University but ignored the National Football league draft in 1951. Butler had all intentions on starting his Masters but received a phone call that summer from Steelers general manager, Fran Forgarty. Butler who initially didn't believe the phone call said, "I didn't know anything about professional football.” Butler would go on to become one of the top...

Tim Tebow has been released from the Jets. It has only been a year since the media blitz began in New York with the announcement of acquiring Tebow from the Denver Broncos. Tebow who has over 2.2 million followers on Twitter and remained at the top of list in NFL Players jersey sales has been a part of a lengthy process that produced no interest from other NFL organizations. The writing was on the wall and many expected that Tebow’s stint with the Jets would end in the off-season. In what started off as many believed as a media frenzy and circus last March ended strategically silent as the Jets Organization released a three-...

Nnamdi Asomugha and the San Francisco 49ers have agreed on a one-year contract with a base package of $1.35 million with the potential to make as much as $3 million. The caveat to earning the money is based on Asomough making the team. The former All-Pro cornerback was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason. Asomugha had signed a five-year contract with the Eagles in 2011 for $60 million with $25 million guaranteed. The Eagles organization is still responsible for $4 million for the 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds cornerback. Asomugha was drafted 31st in the first round by the Oakland Raiders where he played for eight seasons and...

In a long anticipated wait and see strategy, it’s now clear that free-agent defensive end Osi Umenyiora is expected to sign a contract with the Atlanta Falcons. Umenyiora’s agent Tom Condon and the Falcons General Manager Thomas Dimitroff are actively working on the details of the contract. When asked about the contract discussions Dimitroff said the talks were, "fluid and amicable." The 31-year-old defensive end has been with the New York Giants his entire nine-year NFL career. He will be known as one of the most prominent Giants players in his time becoming a two-time Super Bowl champion who led the NFC in sacks in 2005 as well...

During the first week of the NFL free agency, organizations were signing with the intent of building a championship team. There were several premier veteran players released this week to only be picked up within hours by another team and in some cases rival teams. Here's the list of teams who made transactions this week: Arizona Cardinals - 3/11 Early Doucet (WR) Terminated, Vested Veteran, all contracts (terminated, vested       veteran, all contracts). 3/12 Fozzy Whittaker (RB) Waived, No Recall (waived, no recall). Beanie Wells (RB) Terminated, Vested Veteran, all contracts (terminated, vested veteran, all contracts)...

Wes Welker and the Denver Broncos have agreed on a two-year contract worth $12 million. Welker is a big catch in the free agency frenzy and John Elway, the Broncos executive vice president of football, let everyone know it when he tweeted, “Excited to have Wes join the Broncos. His production & toughness will be a great asset!" The New England Patriots and Wes Welker had been in talks coming into free agency, but talks broke off between Welker’s agent and the Patriots organization several times. In the end, neither side could come to an agreement on the terms of a deal.  The writing may have been on the wall when the Patriots...

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to a trade that would send wide receiver Percy Harvin to Seattle Seahawks and in return the Vikings would receive Seattle’s first and seventh round picks in the 2013 NFL Draft and a mid-round pick in the 2014 Draft. The deal is also contingent up Harvin passing a physical. Harvin has a past with Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who coached Harvin in his rookie year in Minnesota. Harvin was putting up All-Pro numbers last season until he sprained his left ankle November 4th, ironically in Seattle. Harvin led the NFL in total yards (rushing, receiving and return yards) before getting...
