The news of a huge trade between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Houston Rockets is trending and I'm sure many people were as shocked as I am. Chris Paul had recently opted out of his contract and Houston was believed to be the favorite to sign the point guard during the offseason. However, today we learned he opted back into his contract and was traded to Houston for Patrick Beverley, San Dekker, Lou Williams, and a first round pick in next years draft. This trade doesn't make sense as Houston was expected to sign Paul this offseason anyways. It also makes no sense to sign a second point guard after Harden had what was easily his...

So far in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the team to win game five when the series is tied 2-2 has went on to win the series all five times, so Saturday night’s Western Conference Final game 5 in Anaheim was set up to be a huge game for both teams. It’s already been a long series for both teams as the Nashville Predators lost Ryan Johansen for the rest of the playoffs and captain Mike Fisher in game 4, while the Anaheim Ducks lost leading scorer Rikard Rakell. The two banged up teams played a great game that saw the Predators coming out on top 3-1. The Ducks’ Chris Wagner would strike first after a scoreless first period. Then, with...

On Saturday night, Atlanta United hosted the Houston Dynamo in yet another sellout at Bobby Dodd Stadium and Atlanta routed the Dynamo 4-1. Miguel Almiron, who had only two goals on the season, scored the second hat trick in Atlanta history and drew even with Josef Martinez for most goals on the team, while Julian Gressel notched his second goal. Houston got one back on a 90th minute penalty kick scored by Erick Torres. Atlanta, who lost three in a row before a draw against the Portland Timbers got them back on track, were at one point first in the east but are now 2 spots out of the playoffs in 8th and 2 points behind 6th. United is...

Championship Sunday has come and gone and maybe one of the most interesting games for the future was Manchester United hosting Crystal Palace in what was a 2-0 victory for United. While the game had no implications on next season, we did see an interesting lineup from Manchester United as they started their youngest team ever with an average age of 22 years old. The only player above 25 was 31-year-old Wayne Rooney and if you take him out of the lineup the average age drops quite a bit. There were eight players that have graduated from United’s academy in the lineup and four players made their first senior club start, including Josh...

As we are all aware, Derek Carr went down with a broken fibula during a week 16 blowout of the Colts last season which was the leading factor to the Raiders early exit from the playoffs. The Oakland Raiders lost the final game of the regular season to the Denver Broncos to drop their record to 12-4 moving into the playoffs. During the game with Denver, left tackle Donald Penn sustained a knee injury that would rule him out of their playoff game as well. Without an offensive lineman and the starting quarterback in a pass first offense, the Raiders lost 27-14 to a Houston Texans team that struggled all season and would’ve been an easy...

And then there were two. Saturday night’s games were a couple of classic Final Four battles. In the first matchup, the Gonzaga Bulldogs had a comfortable nine point halftime lead, but gave the lead up after the Gamecocks got hot in the second half. However, Gonzaga’s big men dominated the game and were able to do enough near the end to hold on to a 77-73 victory over a good South Carolina team. In the nightcap, we were treated to one of the best games in tournament history as the North Carolina Tar Heels went into the half with a 39-36 lead but Oregon put together a great second half only to fall just short when the Ducks...

After the Georgetown Hoyas basketball team fired their former head coach, John Thompson III, many accused the school of not having a plan when looking for a new coach, and they just proved everyone wrong hiring Georgetown great Patrick Ewing as their newest head coach. Ewing, who has spent the last 15 years as an assistant coach in the NBA with the last 4 of those in Charlotte, played at Georgetown from 1981 to 1985. During his time as a college player, he averaged 15 points and 9 rebounds, won a National Championship, and was awarded the Naismith Award and Rupp Trophy, as well as being a three time consensus All-American. In fact, he...

On Sunday, Barcelona knocked off Granada 4-1 on goals from Luis Suárez, Paco Alcácer, Ivan Rakitic, and Neymar, despite concern from fans about how the club would perform without Lionel Messi, who missed the match due to a suspension for picking up his fifth booking of the season. Barça came into the game two points behind Real Madrid in the battle atop the table, but couldn’t gain any ground as Los Blancos also picked up three points with a 3-0 victory over Alavés after goals from Karim Benzema, Isco, and Nacho. Barcelona, still sitting behind Real Madrid by two points, has played 29 matches this season just like every almost...

The Cavs aren't the only contenders in the Eastern Conference any more as a young Boston Celtics team has taken first place and are clinging to a half game lead over the reigning champ, Cleveland Cavaliers. Led by the play of 5’9” point guard Isaiah Thomas, who is averaging a team best 29 points per game and just under 6 assists per game, the Celtics have quickly made themselves a top contender in the Eastern Conference. Thomas, the final pick of the 2011 draft, has put together a season worthy of MVP consideration while leading the Celtics to a potential number one seed. Boston also picked up a big addition in the off-season by...

Argentina came out of the Copa América Final in somewhat of a slump after not being able to close out the game and losing 4-2 in penalties. They haven’t been able to get into a solid form, picking up only eleven points in the seven games after the final. This is largely due to the fact that they aren’t performing well against the teams they should be. Argentina lost to Paraguay (8th in CONMEBOL) and picked up draws against Peru (7th in CONMEBOL) and Venezuela (10th in CONMEBOL). As if things weren’t tough enough for Argentina, star forward Lionel Messi has been handed a four game suspension after he was seen throwing his arms...
